before the voice

the path
that led me home

years of seeing, before the sounding.

before voice alchemy found me, i moved through the world as a filmmaker and nature photographer: deep rainforests, open oceans, wild landscapes and small villages, learning to see, to feel, to listen to the quiet intelligence of the earth.

before that, i had sat in vipassana temples, learning to go inward, to meet what lives beneath the noise.

so when i entered the rainforest, i was already trained to enter myself. going deeper into the wild and going deeper within were never separate journeys.

and there, i met her

the divine mother, my beloved, in the living body of nature.

i had come to capture her beauty in the most precious way i could, and in doing so i fell completely under her spell: merged, entranced, mesmerised by the gift of her.

to photograph her was a meditation. this is where mindful photography truly came to life in me.

and all the while, i was singing. even behind the camera i was sounding from the silence, humming with the rivers, answering the calls of the jungle, until i could no longer tell where i ended and the living world began.

a wordless conversation between me and everything around me.

the images became something other than projects. more like transmissions. soul portraits.

animals would stop and meet me, holding my gaze, still, as if they had chosen the moment of being seen. eye to eye, no separation.

what i witnessed,
i captured.

the images and films from those years still carry the field they were made in.

they are gathered in the gallery, where what i am describing here can simply be seen.

in time i understood that i did not want to capture spirit. i wanted to be one with spirit, and for her to move through me.

nature is not a reflection of us. she is an extension of our own being. there is no outside to meet, only the one field, looking back at itself.

this is where the voice came in. sound became the teacher. the voice claimed its place.

the vessel and the journey

for the past twelve years i have held ceremonial space in the wild: in forests and caves, on retreats, and at earthkeepers gatherings woven around the living earth.

it began by teaching the art of mindful photography. but people reflected that they were receiving something far deeper than how to see beauty: a heart awakening, a way to embody their essence, to live in relation with nature and all of life, and to restore their sense of meaning.

photography was only ever the vessel for that deeper journey, the soul journey i now hold.

two decades behind the lens

for twenty years i made films: art and dance films, music videos, documentaries, trailers, work for architects, artists, and theatre.

a small selection remains here, from the years when the seeing was still moving through a lens.

eventually i left filmmaking as a profession, but never as a way of seeing.

the same field that once passed through my lens now passes through my voice. it was never the images that mattered. it was what they taught me to perceive.

what remains is this: the seeing itself, carried now in sound.
